There is enormous power in a holistic approach to Physical Therapy and healing. Having been a physical therapist for over 29 years, I’ve treated clients using many therapies. And I’ve found that a synergistic approach, combining treatment modalities, often produces the most positive client outcomes. And noteworthy results are something I’ve seen time and again, particularly when combining Craniosacral Therapy with Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Therapy.
This powerhouse combo has been life-changing for many – and my clients have become raving fans of this approach. So, let’s dive in by introducing each individually and then culminating with exploring the dynamic power of these highly complementary therapies used together in treatment.
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Recognized as a deeply profound and therapeutic approach, Craniosacral Therapy (CST) unlocks the body’s natural capacity for healing. CST is renowned for its uncanny ability to dissolve deep-seated tension, stress, and dysfunction within the body. This treatment is a holistic approach that nurtures well-being on a physical, mental, and emotional level. Beyond the bliss of soothing touch, this therapeutic modality effectively awakens your body’s internal defenses, sparking immune-boosting effects and igniting resilience from within.
This extraordinary therapeutic approach was founded by world-renowned visionary and Osteopathic Physician John E Upledger. While conducting rigorous clinical research as a distinguished professor at Michigan State University, Upledger revealed and announced this dynamic and transformational therapy to the world.
Essentially, with CST, there is a delicate interplay between the cranium (skull) and the sacrum (which lies at the base of the spine). By addressing restrictions within both areas, a skilled and gifted practitioner facilitates the release of tensions held in soft tissues and throughout the central nervous system. When this occurs, clients receiving treatment experience the heights of harmony and balance, which rejuvenates their capacity for healing.
Clients who receive CST often say the experience defies words, but all report profound feelings of calmness and a deep state of relaxation. Discover firsthand the wonders of Craniosacral Therapy and how it enhances other holistic therapies.
CST offers a unique opportunity to find stillness in a chaotic world and tap into your body’s natural ability to heal itself from within. Whether you seek relief from chronic pain, migraines, anxiety, or a number of ailments or desire to enhance all-around well-being – CST could be an excellent option for you!
What is Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS)?
Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Therapy leverages the power of acupuncture, osteopathy, and neurology, combining the wisdom from each with the innovative Dolphin microcurrent. The Dolphin Neurostim device effectively pinpoints active trigger points, releasing muscle tension and facilitating a calming effect on the nervous system. This treatment stimulates the release of your body’s natural pain-relieving endorphins.
An innovative and cutting-edge technology, the Dolphin Neurostim device is remarkably precise at detecting and treating troublesome areas in the body. MPS Therapy addresses many body functions simultaneously and effectively regulates the nervous, muscular, immune, and endocrine systems. It is known to be favorable in treating various challenging soft-tissue pain disorders and will provide relief to long-suffering clients.
Microcurrent Point Stimulation Therapy is increasingly used in many medical fields, including Physical Therapy, Orthopedics, Pain Management, and Sports Medicine. It’s an outstanding therapeutic option for many conditions and is especially useful in treating chronic pain, scar tissue release, and vagal nerve stimulation.
This treatment is a fusion of ancient modalities combined with modern science and technology and provides a new and better way to heal chronic pain and discomfort.
A Synergistic Approach to Optimal Outcomes
When two complementary treatments are similar and well-suited to work in unison, as is the case with Craniosacral Therapy and Microcurrent Point Stimulation Therapy – they uplevel healing potential. Combined, they produce a more significant clinical effect than when used separately. As synergy exists between the body and the mind, that same influence exists when CST and MPS Therapy are combined in a therapeutic setting. The two together are mutually beneficial and deliver enhanced positive outcomes.
For clients looking to experience amplified therapeutic outcomes – it’s wise to consider combining these two healing therapies.
During a powerful treatment with a client, while using the Dolphin Neurostim device in the wrist area, the client experienced involuntary twitching in her hand, something I had not seen before. The client also reported feeling pelvic pain on the left side of her pelvic floor (having never experienced it before). The Dolphin acted as a radar, pointing out a problematic area. This served as a cue for an area needing attention during Craniosacral treatment.
This particular client was processing grief and had a history of anxiety, and both treatments provided enormous relief. MPS Therapy is highly advantageous in treating anxiety, as vagal nerve stimulation offers a profound calming effect.
Craniosacral Therapy is very effective in releasing emotions trapped within the body. The two therapies delivered next-level healing results and dramatic relief for this client.
The pelvic floor pain on the left side entirely resolved after the combination therapy, and this client reports the need to nap or rest after treatment to process the experience fully.
This is just one example of many success stories, and I encourage this synergistic approach to many clients. You can read many positive outcomes from our past clients in our Google reviews.
CST and MPS in Practice
Most of the clients I see have struggled with chronic pain and have tried a variety of modalities, including traditional physical therapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy.
People with chronic pain have an unregulated autonomic nervous system. Essentially, their bodies have been stuck in a “fight or flight response” for an extended period.
During this sympathetic response (fight or flight), your heart rate increases, senses heighten, pupils dilate, digestion temporarily shuts down, blood pressure increases, causes increased cortisol, restricts blood flow, contributes to inflammation, and your muscles tighten.
Needless to say, sympathetic stress is terrible for your body and overall health.
I typically start with MPS Therapy to help my clients decrease the sympathetic activation in the body and increase the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. The PSN (parasympathetic nervous system) helps to create balance in the body, release tight tissues, decrease blood pressure, improve circulation, boost the immune system, and promote healing.
More often than not, I find that using MPS Therapy first resets the body and allows for a more powerful craniosacral therapy session. And, of course, the protocol can be changed and customized for the benefit of each client, depending on the condition being treated.
